I’m serious. No magic, no fake stuff. I’m talking about an honest-to-crap flame producing sword. Because last night I had an idea on how to make one (inspired by gas range stove tops, crankshaft oil galleries, flint, and my own personal invention which I dub "The Ball Valve".) It was so amazing I drew out some blueprints, and today I re-did them via Microsoft Paint (the result is seen in the link below).
It pretty much works on the same premise of a barbecue lighter. In the hilt is a small container container of gas (I’m thinking of sticking with propane or acetylene). Gas flows through some passageways bored into the blade to the twenty-two jet valves coming out of the blade (eleven on each side), which lets the gas out in the air. The gas flow is controlled by a ball valve (a little ball with two holes on opposite ends); when a button on the hilt is pushed, the holes line up with the passageways, allowing the gas to flow (this does not ignite it, however).
On the scabbard (or the sheath, as some refer to it), on the last five inches from the top, the sides (where the sharpened parts of the blade rub against) contain a strip of flint inside. So when somebody pushes the button on the hilt and draws it out of the scabbard, the resulting spark would light off the gas, and it would keep burning until you either ran out of fuel or let go of the button, which would close the ball valve.
Is there any comments or thoughts? The diagram in the link goes into a little more detail. Any criticism is accepted, I just want to know if it’s a good idea. Because I have the equipment necessary to do it, it just requires money. And I don’t want to spend money on a bad idea.

Will give the best answer to anyone who comes up with an appropriate name for it, because ‘Flaming Sword’ really sounds like the nickname of a gay nightclub owner’s genitalia.

No, I wouldn’t. First off, a gas tank small enough to fit in a sword hilt would have to hold such high pressure that I would be afraid it would rupture and blow my hand off.
Second, the flame would ruin the heat treatment of the steel in the sword.
